Laura Wascher, 24, was born in Berlin, Germany. She studied environmental planning, ecology and landscape architecture at Technische Universität Berlin. Laura graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Planning and Landscape Architecture. During her studies she took the chance to conduct three different jobs within the University. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Dean, as a consulting assistant in the language department of the University, and as a research assistant for the climatology department. Moreover she conducted several different internships, e.g. working as a volunteer for the mountain forest project in Switzerland. Before this she lived in Sweden for several months during the term breaks, to conduct her internship at the agency for sustainable travel in Umeå, Sweden. There she got to develop her Swedish skills, and worked with international students and women with migration background. Lastly she lived in Iceland, before returning to Sweden in 2011. In Iceland she successfully completed an internship for the Sustainability Center Sesseljuhús in the Eco-Village Sólheimar. Her main task was project for local carbon compensation, and organising the campaign & actions for “A Day to Celebrate Climate Solutions” on 10-10-10. Laura loves exploring nature and urban environments, and is always keen to develop her language skills and get to know new cultures. By completing her Master studies in Malmö, she aims to continue her work in Sweden. Her goal is to contribute to a more sustainable urban planning, mitigating climate change effects through urban design, enhancing green spaces and fostering sustainable mobility. Right after finishing her studies at MAH, Laura started working within the Streets and Parks Department of Malmö City. The department’s motive is ” A Malmö where you would rather be outdoors than indoors”. She works with the operation and maintenance section for public space, where she works with GIS, databases and maps. She is also involved in different projects, e.g. on urban and community gardening. She joined the environmental group hoping to improve internal procedures and contribute to sustainable management of Malmö´s green spaces.
