How Culture Matters for Development – Hugo Boothby
*Signe Byre Sørensen is a producer of the documentary film ‘The look of Silence’ (dir. Joshua Oppenheimer). The film is a companion piece to Oppenheimer’s Oscar nominated ‘The Act of Killing’, for which Signe Byre Sørensen, was also a producer. In the film we follow a man whose brother was killed during the 1965 Indonesian genocide. He confronts the killers and asks them to take responsibility for their actions.
For this Saturday morning session Signe, in conversation with Oscar Hemer, will present the film and discuss more broadly the role of cultural production within processes of transition and the working through of traumatic histories.
Signe’s and Oscars conversation will be followed by a screening of ‘The Look of Silence’
