Welcome to the Communication for Development Masters programme and the course start guide for the Spring 2019 term.
Before you have a look at the ComDev courses you should check out the “Welcome to Malmö University” pages with key general information for all new and returning students.
Below you will find a time table for the course start so you can plan your participation. Find “your” information below according to stage the of your studies.

New students spring 2019
Students starting the Communication for Development masters’ programme in spring 2019 will begin their first semester with the Communication, Culture and Media Analysis course (KK621C). On this course you will also be joined by students who started their studies in autumn 2018 and have already completed one semester of the programme.

Please Note: When you log into the Canvas course site you will find an expanded literature list with additional articles and thematic reading.
There are 3 important steps you have to do before your course start on Monday, January 21st
Step 1. Get your login information for Malmö University’s IT systems (from December 21st)
Step 2. Course registration (from January 14th to January 20th)
Go to Ladok student and follow the instructions and complete your registration. Login with your computer ID and register. You need to register for the course, Communication, Culture and Media Analysis (KK621C).
IMPORTANT! Please register as soon as possible! It normally takes 1 or 2 days for the different systems to sync so this means you may have to wait a day or two after your online registration before you can access the CCMA course site in Canvas.
Step 3. Log into Canvas
You should make sure you have access to our learning management system Canvas before the official course start on Monday, January 21st.
On the Canvas course site you will find the course timeline, instructions about assignments and a detailed reading list.
Use the open forum to say hello to your fellow students.

These are ONLY some key dates for the first weeks of the course. You will get a full list of teaching activities when you log into the Canvas course site in January.
Monday, January 21st – COURSE START
Thursday, January 24th 13:00-16:00 local Swedish time – COURSE INTRODUCTION (unless stated explicitly otherwise times for lectures, submission deadlines etc. are stated in Swedish time).
The course introduction is an online session via Zoom. You will find the Zoom link to the virtual meeting space on the Canvas course site. We recommend that you create a free account with the same full name you that is registered in Canvas; this helps us to identify and address students properly.
If you wish to attend in person you are welcome join us in the Glocal Classroom C0502 Niagara building, opposite the ‘C’ elevators. C0502 Niagara is ComDev’s dedicated teaching room and most regular classroom teaching will take place in this room.
In addition to the online introduction on Thursday January 24th the first teaching activities on the CCMA course will be as follows:
Thursday January 31st 13:00 – 15:00 local Swedish time
Online Lecture: Hugo Boothby – Communication for Development within Its Institutional Context.
Participate online using Zoom or join us in the Glocal Classroom C0502 Niagara.
Friday 8th & Saturday 9th February – two-day Seminar (09:30 – 17:00 local Swedish time)
This is the first seminar of the Communication, Culture and Media Analysis course. There will be two days of lectures, discussions and presentations from ComDev staff and guest lecturers.
If you live reasonably close by (i.e. in Europe) we are looking forward to welcoming you to Malmö in person. If you are unable to come to Malmö then you can follow live online and participate in lectures and discussions using the Zoom video streaming software. If you are planning to travel to Malmö during the spring term please prioritise this two day seminar.

Important Information for all ComDev students starting semesters 2, 3 and 4
Course registration is open from January 14th – January 20th

Monday, January 21st – COURSE START

Students who started autumn 2018 – Semester 2
See information above for new students – you will also study Communication, Culture & Media Analysis during the spring term and need to sign up for the course through LADOK student.
Students who started spring 2018 – Semester 3
You will study your third semester on the programme with courses New Media, ICT and Development (NMICT&DEV) Course Code KK622C and Research Methodology Course Code KK623C.
Important! Register for BOTH for NMICT&DEV and RM when you complete your course registration in January.

ONLINE COURSE INTRODUCTION New Media, ICT and Development Thursday January 24th 10:00 – 12:00 local Swedish time
The introduction is an online session and will be streamed via Zoom.
Research Methodology (KK623C)
New Media, ICT & Development is taught in first part of the semester (first 10 weeks). In the second half (10 weeks) of the spring semester you will study Research Methodology (RM) Course Code KK623C from April 2019.
Students who started autumn 2017 – Semester 4
Continuing with your fourth semester and the Degree Project (DP) Course Code KK624C. You need to sign up for the course through LADOK student
Please note: This course will be hosted on Canvas for the first time; we will no longer use or check Itslearning after the examination of the autumn 2018 cohort.
Online Course Introduction Degree Project Thursday January 24th 16:00 – 17:00 Local Swedish time
The introduction is an online session and will be streamed via Zoom.
Started autumn 2016 or before – Semester 4 and ongoing Degree Projects
If you already registered for a Degree Project course in the past you need to contact our faculty support about re-registration options.
