Course Start Guide

Welcome to the Communication for Development Masters programme and the course start guide for the Spring 2018.

You will find a time table for the course start so you can plan your participation. You will also find information on when you can register for the programme and your courses, how you can access login information for our online learning platform and other important IT services at Malmö University. The page is divided into sections that contain information for students at different stages in the ComDev programme. Find “your” information below.

New students Spring 2018

Students starting the Communication for Development programme in spring 2018 will begin their first semester with the Communication, Culture and Media Analysis course. On this course you will also meet students who started their studies in autumn 2017 and have already completed one semester of the programme.

There are 3 important steps you have to do before your course start on Monday, January 15th

Step 1. Get your login information for Malmö University’s IT systems

Use this link https://idservice.mah.se/RequestUserID.aspx to request your Malmö University Computer Identity (username and password). It is important that you request your username and password as soon as you can because without this you cannot access It’s Learning or Live Lecture the ComDev online learning platforms. If you have questions regarding your Malmö University username and password you should contact IT Support email: support@mah.se Here is a video about the computerID [ Eng | Swe ]

You can download your username and password from December 28th

Step 2. Course registration – Opens January 8th (Deadline January 14th)

Go to Ladok Student follow the instructions and complete your registration. Login with your computer ID and register. Because this is your first term you need to register both on the programme Communication for Development (HACFD) and the first course, Communication, Culture and Media Analysis (KK621C).

IMPORTANT! Please register as soon as possible! It normally takes 1 or 2 days for the different systems to sync so this means you may have to wait a day or two after your online registration before you can access the CCMA course site in It’s Learning.

Step 3. Log into It’s Learning

You should make sure you have access to It’s Learning before the official course start on Monday, August 28th. On the It’s Learning course site you will find the course timeline, instructions about assignments and a detailed reading list. Login to It’s learning https://mah.itslearning.com/elogin/ and explore the course site. It is important that you use the correct link to access It’s Learning. Use the link on this site (see menu to the right) or from www.mah.se (PLEASE NOTE! www.itslearning.com WILL NOT work) Use the open forum to say hello to your fellow students.

You will find additional information for new students on the Malmö University web-site here http://www.mah.se/newstudent this information is primarily for those studying campus based courses but some will still be useful for students studying from elsewhere and those based in Malmö.

These are ONLY some key dates for the first weeks of the course. You will get a full list of teaching activities when you log into the It’s Learning course site in August.

Monday, January 15th – COURSE START

Thursday, January 18th 13:00-15:00 local Swedish time ONLINE COURSE INTRODUCTION.

This is an online session in Live Lecture. You will find the live lecture link on the It’s learning course site (left hand menu). Live Lecture is a very important part of the ComDev teaching environment. Live Lecture is a live video streaming application with integrated text chat. This is where you will participate in online lectures and seminars. Please take some time to read more about Live Lecture here in the Live Lecture Information.

If you wish to attend in person you can join us in the Glocal Classroom C0502 Niagara building, opposite the ‘C’ elevators. This is ComDev’s dedicated teaching room and most regular classroom teaching will take place in this room.

In addition to the online introduction on Thursday 18th January the first teaching activities on this course will be as follows:

Online Lecture: Communication for Development in its Institutional Context – Hugo Boothby

Participate online using Live Lecture or join us in the Glocal Classroom C0502 Niagara.

Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd September – Communication, Culture and Media Analysis day-day Seminar (09:30 – 17:00 local Swedish time)

This is the first two-day seminar of the Communication, Culture and Media Analysis course. There will be two days of lectures, discussions and presentations from ComDev staff and guest lecturers.

If you live in Scandinavia then you are expected to attend in person. If you are unable to come to Malmö then you can follow live online and participate in lectures and discussions using the LIVE LECTURE video streaming and text chat function.

Important Information for all ComDev students starting semesters 2, 3 and 4

Monday 8th January – Online Course Registration Opens (deadline January 14th)

Go to Ladok Student  and complete the course registration.

Monday January 15th – COURSE START

Please make sure that you have completed your registration well before the course start so that you can access It’s Learning and visit your course site. https://mah.itslearning.com/elogin/

Students who started autumn 2017 – Semester 2

For your second semester you will study Communication, Culture and Media Analysis (KK621C).

Students who started autumn 2016 – Semester 3

You will study your third semester on the programme with courses New Media, ICT and Development (NMICT&DEV) Course Code KK622C and Research Methodology Course Code KK623C.
Important! Register for BOTH for NMICT&DEV and RM when you complete your course registration in August.

ONLINE COURSE INTRODUCTION New Media, ICT and Development (Live Lecture) Thursday 18th January 10:00 – 12:00 local Swedish time

The introduction is an online session and will be streamed via LIVE LECTURE.

Research Methodology (KK623C)

New Media, ICT & Development is taught in first part of the semester (first 10 weeks). In the second half of this autumn semester you will study Research Methodology (RM) Course Code KK623C from March 26th 2018 (second 10 weeks).

Students who started spring 2016 – Semester 4

Continuing with your fourth semester and the Degree Project (DP) Course Code KK624C

Online Course Introduction (Live Lecture)

The introduction is an online session and will be streamed via LIVE LECTURE. PLEASE NOTE: We have now migrated LIVE LECTURE to a new platform. You will find the NEW link in It’s Learning in the left hand menu. Please use this new link and not an old one you have previously bookmarked!

Started spring 2016 or before – Semester 4 and ongoing Degree Projects
