Course start guide spring 2015

Welcome to the Communication for Development Masters programme and the course start guide for the spring 2015 term. Here we present a time table for the course start so you can anticipate when things are going to happen. When you can register for the programme and course, how you can get your login information to the learning platform and other important services at Malmö University. The page is divided into sections that contain information for students at different stages in the Comdev programme. Find “your” information below. Students…


Programme start spring 2015 – Semester 1 (New students)

Students starting the Communication for Development programme in spring 2015 will begin their first semester with the Communication, Culture and Media Analysis (CCMA) Course, Code KK621C. On this course you will also meet students who started their studies in autumn 2014 and have already completed one semester of the programme. There are 4 important steps you have to do before the course start Monday the 19th January. Beside these steps we suggest you join the comdev Facebook page, see the link to the right, and socialize with your new friends and also prepare yourself by have a look at the syllabus, literature list and the student handbook. There will be a full literature list available on the course site in It’s Learning. But here is a provisional list of literature that will be of use for the first part of your first course Communication, Culture and Media Analysis

Step 1. Accepting your admittance (Deadline 19 December)

Please note the importance of accepting your admittance at universityadmissions.se to keep your place. Log on to ‘My pages’ and follow the instructions. You must respond before 19 December. If you get any problems with accepting your admission please contact the Admission office

Step 2. Get your login information to Malmö University’s IT systems – Opens the 8th January

Use this link www.mah.se/student/datorid to request your Malmö University Computer Identity (username and password). Click on the In English button in the top right hand corner for the English language page and follow the instructions. PLEASE NOTE: You can NOT request your Malmö University Computer Identity BEFORE the 8th January. It is very important that you request your username and password as soon as you can because without this you cannot access It’s Learning the ComDev online learning platform. Step 3. Course registration on the Web – Opens 12th January (Deadline 18th January)

Go to https://minastudier.mah.se/ (click on In English in the top right hand corner) follow the instructions and complete your registration. Login with your computerID and register. You need to register both on the programme Communication for Development (HACFD) and the first course, Communication, Culture and Media Analysis (KK621C) since it is your first semester.

IMPORTANT! Don’t wait until the last minute to register. NOTE! It normally takes 1 or 2 days for the different systems to sync so this means you may have to wait a day or two after your web registration before you can access the CCMA course in It’s Learning.

Step 4. Create your Live Lecture account – Opens 12th January (Deadline 18th January)

LIVE LECTURE is the system we use to webcast online sessions and seminars. This application works outside the Malmö University IT environment and requires a log in that is DIFFERENT to your Malmö University username and password. This means that you MUST create a separate LIVE LECTURE account. Please create your LIVE LECTURE account as soon as possible after 14th January. Don’t wait to the last minute to do this! Monday 19 January – COURSE START – enter IT’S LEARNING

You should make sure you have access to It’s Learning before this date. It is here that you will find the course timeline, instructions about assignments and a detailed reading list. Login to It’s learning https://mah.itslearning.com/elogin/ and explore the course site. Note! it is important that you use the correct link to access It’s Learning. Use the link from the Comdev Portal (see links to the right) or from www.mah.se (NOTE! www.itslearning.com WILL NOT work) Use the open forum to say hello to your fellow students.

Thursday 22 January 12AM – 1.45 PM GMT (13-14.45 Swedish time) – ONLINE COURSE INTRODUCTION

This is an online session in Live Lecture. You will find the live lecture link on the course site in It’s learning (left hand menu). This is the reason that we want you to create the Live Lecture account in good time before the course start so that you know the system and can use LIVE LECTURE to participate in the online introduction. Friday 6th  and Saturday 7th February 2015 – Communication, Culture and Media Analysis Two Day Seminar

This is the first two day seminar of the Communication, Culture and Media Analysis course. There will be two days of lectures, discussions and presentations from ComDev staff and guest lecturers. The programme for this seminar is still to be confirmed but when it is published you will be able to see it here.

Participation in ComDev seminars is obligatory. If you live in Scandinavia then you are expected to attend in person. If you are unable to come to Malmö then you can follow live online and participate in lectures and discussions using the LIVE LECTURE video streaming and chat function.


Important Information for all Comdev students starting semesters 2, 3 and 4

12th January – Course registration on the Web (deadline 18th January)

Go to https://minastudier.mah.se/ (click on the In English button in the top right hand corner of the page) and complete the course registration.

Monday 19 January – COURSE START

Please make sure that you have completed your registration well before the course start so that you can access It’s Learning and visit your course site.


Students started autumn 2014 – Semester 2

You will continue with your second semester with Communication, Culture and Media Analysis (CCMA) Course Code KK621C. There will be a full literature list available on the course site in It’s Learning. But here is a provisional list of literature that will be of use for the first part of your first course Communication, Culture and Media Analysis

Thursday 22 January 12 AM – 1.45 PM GMT (13-14.45 Swedish time) – ONLINE COURSE INTRODUCTION

You will be jointed by the new students who starts ComDev spring 201. Place: Live Lecture in its learning. Please check so you have access to Live Lecture – remember the different this login is different from your standard Malmö University username and password (the zon***** username ).

Friday 6th and Saturday 7th February 2015  – Communication, Culture and Media Analysis Two Day Seminar

Thursday 22 January 2.00 – 3.30 PM GMT (15.00 -16.30 Swedish time) ONLINE COURSE INTRODUCTION New Media, ICT and Development (Live Lecture)

New Media, ICT and Development is half semester course. In the second half of this autumn semester your will study and Research Methodology (RM) Course Code KK623C in November to January

Started before autumn 2013 – Semester 4 and ongoing Degree Projects

Did the Degree Project course autumn 2013 and are still working with the degree project and aim for examination in the spring 2014. You will keep on working on the same Degree Projects site – you will not be moved to a new course site in It’s Learning.
