Meet the first group that will be contributing to making this blog a lively arena for academic, artistic, interdisciplinary and cross-cultural discussions about Youth in Transition.
We, Mwalimu Kayoka (in the middle of the picture) and Dr Ylva (behind the camera) had the great pleasure of discussing this topic – that we in Swahili agreed to translate into ‘Vijana katika Mabadiliko’ – with this bunch of enthusiastic Radio Drama students at Department of Fine and Performing Arts in Dar es Salaam during an inspirational workshop last Saturday.
Currently, the students are busy forming groups, specifying the topics they want to look into, discuss and communicate about, and initiating pre-production research. By the end of this term, these particular students will have produced their own radio dramas. Dealing with topics such as street youths in Dar es Salaam and their strategies for survival in the city, sexual practices at the university and the construction of gendered identities, young women moving to the city from the countryside to search for better lives, future dreams and aspirations among students in Tanzania and how these correlate to academic curricula, Facebook as a space for serious discussion about politics and social change or just entertainment, and much much more.
Malmö students, and other interested readers, will be able to follow and discuss their work along the way. The Radio Drama students are eager to start communicating with you. So stayed tuned and join the discussion!
