Youth in all parts of the World have dreams about what they want to do. In order to realise those dreams, youth engage in different activities. Our research will focus on young Tanzanian university students, to see if their dreams can be fulfilled through the education which is provided at the univesity. Or is their ability to fulfill their dreams hindered by the curriculum or by families that make choices on behalf of their children? Other factors?

The big question we want to find an answer to is: Does the university education of Tanzania today help the young students to fulfill their dreams? The methods we will use to investigate this question are interviews and observation and focus group discussions.

The findings from the research among students at University of Dar es Salaam will give us inspiration to the production of a Radio Drama. In the process we will try to include students and their own ideas as much as possible:

1. In the pre-production research, the methods above will be applied so that we can create a room for discussion with the intended group in order to prepare a radio drama script which has ideas from people themselves.
2. The findings obtained in the reseach are going to be implemented to the characters through training for the characters in order to prepare the radio drama.
3. The production and airing of the radio drama will ideally be through Mlimani Radio, which is the students’ radio at the University of Dar es Salaam.
4. When the drama has been aired, the audience are invited to participate through sending e-mails and sms in order to evaluate the play, and to give comments.

Through the radio drama we are hoping to make students aware of that their dreams matter, and that if they find obstacles in their way of realising their dreams, they need to do something about it. The intention of the drama is to empower young Tanzanian students to take control over their own dreams.
